Replacing kitchen recommended for home improvers

Householders who are considering taking on home improvement projects have been advised to consider replacing their bathrooms or kitchens.

According to Kamarul Ariff, installing a new kitchen or bathroom can be a good way to increase the value of a house and make it a more attractive proposition for buyers when the time comes to sell the property.

Speaking to the Star, he said: "Compared to renovating the living area or a master bedroom, the kitchen or bathroom is generally smaller and tend to cost less - making it easier and faster to recoup your cost."

Mr Ariff added that homeowners do not necessarily need to renovate the entire kitchen, as some good improvements could be to bring in new appliances or to replace the flooring.

However, Appraisal Institute president Leslie Sellers recently stated that larger home improvements are not necessarily the best way to increase the value of a home.

He said repainting the walls of a property could be a better option to spruce up a house.
