'Remove shoes' to protect wood flooring
Homeowners have been advised that they could protect their wood flooring by asking guests to remove their shoes upon entering a home.
Writing for Inforum, columnists Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar responded to the question of one reader who had been progressively fitting out their home with wood floors.
The reader claimed that after having guests round during the summer, a number of dents appeared in the material and they thought that one stiletto-wearing visitor was particularly to blame.
In response, the columnists claimed that the wear on wood floors are the necessary cost of entertaining.
"However, it is perfectly acceptable to ask guests to remove their shoes at the door," they said.
Laminate flooring may be a good option for those suffering similar problems after an eHow guide to the material praised its durability and ease of maintenance.
"It's easy to install with just a few tools, even if [you have] no experience," it claimed.
