Remodelling market shows signs of stabilising, claims report

According to new figures released by the US-based National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the remainder of 2010 will mark a period of stabilisation for the remodelling market and activities such as installing laminate wood flooring.

The Remodeling Market Index (RMI) measures market demand for remodelling projects and despite a recent dip in the market, the first stages of recovery are expected to emerge in the remainder of the year.

NAHB spokesman David Crowe talked about the current struggle of remodellers who are tending to focus on limited small-scale jobs.

He said: "While remodellers are continuing to struggle, we expect the rest of 2010 to be a period of stabilisation. For now professional remodellers are taking on smaller projects."

This latest report comes in the wake of last week's report from the UK's National Home Improvement Council, which claimed that it expected a boom in the DIY market towards the end of summer.
