Reclaimed wood flooring 'gaining popularity'
Wood flooring that has been reclaimed is becoming an increasingly popular option for homeowners.
This is according to Katherine Salant of the Washington Post, who recently consulted a number of specialists in the field, who reported business is booming.
She spoke to William Drake, who has been processing reclaimed timber and turning it into wood flooring for almost four decades.
"Drake soon learned there was enough old lumber in south-western Virginia to make sourcing and producing finished panelling and flooring a full-time pursuit," said Ms Salant.
She also reported on the story of Pete Nichols, an environmental enthusiast who creates engineered wood flooring from reclaimed timber.
After visiting a Chinese factory in the 1990s, Mr Nichols discovered technicians creating the composite material from scraps of bamboo.
This comes after the Centre Daily reported that US homeowners in Washington are increasingly turning to architectural reclamation as a way to demolish their homes.
