Protect your wood floors, homeowners advised
Homeowners with wood flooring have been urged to ensure it is safe after the recent spate of cold weather.
In a recent article for the El Paso Times, columnist Maria Gonzalez appealed to those affected by extreme temperatures and broken pipes to examine their wood floors for damage.
She consulted Becky Martin, executive director of the local branch of the National Association of Remodelers Association, who revealed the harm excessive exposure to moisture can bring to the material.
"When they've been sitting there with two inches of water for 24 hours, you end up having to replace them," said Ms Martin.
She explained some flooded homes have seen their wood flooring buckle due to water damage but noted many residents have opted to re-install the material.
Earlier in the month, Fox News reported on a US property in Athens, which had its wood flooring ruined after excessive snowfall caused liquid to seep through the roof.
