Protect wood flooring from dryness, homeowners advised
Wood flooring needs to be protected from excessive dryness, homeowners have been warned.
The Calgary Sun recently spoke to a number of industry experts who set out several ways in which a property can be detrimentally affected by a lack of humidity.
It consulted Bert Timmer, owner of Alberta Furnace and Heating Services, who claimed that preventing excessive dryness can help to keep wood floors safe.
"Hardwood floors will crack in dryness; the wider the cracks are, the more difficult, if not impossible, for them to return to normal," he said.
Mr Timmer went on to state that maintaining the proper humidity can keep wood floors healthy and advised that the ideal level is 45 per cent.
A similar warning was recently issued by US retailer SCS Hardwood Floors, which noted that wood flooring reacts to the environment and will contract and expand depending on its moisture content.
