Phil Spencer on adding value to your home

TV property guru Phil Spencer has revealed that the current state of the property market has prompted him to publish a book on increasing the value of a home.

Speaking to the Press and Journal, Spencer claimed that the economic climate has forced homeowners to rethink their attitudes, with many opting to improve their houses rather than move.

In his new book Adding Value To Your Home, Spencer provides homeowners with a practical guide to improvements alongside easy ways to make their home more pleasant.

Speaking about some of the tips laid out in the book, he claimed that the golden rule was to buy for the long-term or purchase something with adding value and improvements in mind.

He said: "The cost of moving is high and homes aren't shooting up in price as rapidly as they once were, so people are staying put much longer."

In terms of laminate flooring or engineered wood floors, Spencer recommended hiring a carpenter to ensure a quality finish and making sure worn floors are replaced.

Spencer works alongside Kirstie Allsopp on Channel 4's highly successful property show Relocation, Relocation, Relocation.
