Parents 'should teach children DIY skills'
Children should learn how to do DIY from their parents, according to a home improvement expert.
Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor at Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, stated that people's passion for DIY has not decreased at all.
However, she noted that a lot of people who are now in their 20s and 30s did not learn DIY skills when they were young.
She said parents should get the kids involved in jobs around the house in order for them to pick up the required skills.
Ms Griffiths commented: "I think more people, while they might be scared of learning new skills, eventually will just realise that it is going to be more expensive if they don't learn the basics."
She was speaking after research from Tesco suggested that more and more women are carrying out home improvements.
The supermarket chain found that 60 per cent of women now shop for DIY materials in its stores, compared to just 20 per cent a decade ago.
