Outdoor rooms becoming increasingly fashionable, claims expert

Whether it goes by the name shed, annexe or cabin - the rise of the outdoor room has begun in earnest, according to one expert.

In an article for the Telegraph, Caroline McGhie explored the range of uses that an outdoor space can be put to use for, with a little work.

The Dabrowas, a couple from Camberwell, went as far as creating a small two-bedroom house in their back garden, which currently houses their au pair.

Adding an outdoor room can also be good for the value of a house, as the Dabrowas plan to move away. Their Camberwell property is on the market for over £1.3 million.

The Cooks of Broomshiels Hall turned their rear space into a picturesque log cabin, which served as an adventure play-house for their children.

Jane Cook told the Telegraph: "It provided a side of life which children these days don't get the chance to appreciate. We made it ourselves and we got an enormous amount of pleasure from it."

Ms McGhie's findings echo the sentiments expressed by DIY guru Adam Edwards who, in a Telegraph article earlier this month, claimed that garden sheds were the latest style accessory.
