'Old is new again' in interior design

Wood flooring with a worn-in look could be in vogue following the advice of a recent interior design guide.

The Manila Bulletin reported that thrift stores and antique shops are proving to be hot spots for interior designers looking to create a vintage feel to a home.

"Consignment and thrift stores may now be the best places for designers who believe that 'old is new again'. Antique and vintage pieces definitely add life to any given space," said the guide.

These sentiments were echoed by the Home Improvement Centre, which claimed that the folk-style "vintage" look was an ongoing trend in home improvement.

Rugs were also promoted as one of the hot interior design staples for 2010. The article claimed they had evolved beyond wall coverings and were now seeing much more use as wall hangings.

In addition, the guide advised that wallpapers have also seen a comeback, with increasing use on ceilings, as well as in their traditional role as wall fixtures.
