Oak wood floors could be used at green homes plan

Residents in Wales could be set to benefit from oak wood floors in new green homes following an announcement by the Assembly government.

Around £2 million in funding will be provided for new houses and flats to be built that meet high energy efficiency standards.

Environment minister Jane Davidson stated that the development will allow residents to benefit from lower energy bills.

She added that the government is aiming to strike a balance between fighting climate change and encouraging the construction industry.

Ms Davidson said: "We have a great opportunity to improve the way new buildings are built and with it huge responsibility to provide the right support to our economic recovery."

The green homes could include features such as roof insulation and oak wood floors to help them retain heat.

Householder Chris Handel told the Daily Telegraph earlier this week that carrying out home improvements such as adding oak wood floors to his 1920s home has helped him to reduce his energy bills from £1,200 annually to just £400.
