Norfolk residents encouraged to go green

Norfolk County Council has launched a new scheme to encourage residents to produce their own electricity.

The Norfolk Climate Change Task Force developed a Feed-in Tariff (FIT) programme, which allows residents who generate their own electricity to gain financial rewards.

Climate change adviser for Broadland District Council James Thrope claimed the programme would allow people to regain double the amount that they spend on investing in microgenerators such as solar panels.

"The Feed-in Tariff makes generating renewable energy highly competitive and means householders and communities can make significant amounts of money every year for a 25-year period," he said.

A recent Telegraph article interviewed a Cheltenham couple who had implemented so many energy-saving measures that their power bills frequently only cost £20 per month.

The council recommended that residents seeking to benefit from the scheme should talk to professionals to get advice on how best to implement energy-saving measures and installing microgeneration equipment.
