New homes tax bonuses could prove boon for property developers
Councils that give the go-ahead to new homes will be offered extra money for each new house.
Under the bonus scheme, housing minister Grant Shapps claimed that the incentives would be used to fund a range of local amenities such as frontline services, new playgrounds and council tax discounts intended to encourage house-building.
Councils which approve new properties will not only qualify for the proposed New Homes Bonus, but will also find the council tax for the new homes matched by central government for the following six years.
The incentives have been introduced following the problems surrounding contentious house-building targets, which have failed to encourage the construction of new homes.
Mr Shapps said: "With house-building falling to its lowest level since 1924, action is needed now to build the homes the country needs."
These latest incentives come in the wake of news that the government will also provide bonuses to homeowners who want help with green home improvements.
