New government 'could lead to home improvements'
The arrival of the new government in Downing Street could lead to householders being offered home improvements, according to the UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC).
John Alker, head of advocacy at UK-GBC, stated that the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats agree on methods to tackle climate change.
He said: "I think they were probably quite glad that they could say, 'Yes, smart grids, yes, refurbishment of the existing housing stock'."
Mr Alker said he believes the coalition government will be "stable", adding that the talks following the hung parliament result at last week's general election were good for maintaining consistency with policies.
The Liberal Democrats, in their manifesto published before the election, stated that they would offer householders home improvements such as adding insulation to their properties to help them save money on their energy bills.
Nick Clegg's party also said it would reduce VAT on home improvement repairs, which could lead to more householders taking on DIY projects in their residences.
