Most dreaded DIY tasks revealed in survey

New figures from a survey conducted by property maintenance firm Aspect Maintenance have revealed some of the country's least popular DIY tasks.

The least popular DIY task was revealed to be re-decorating, with just under 40 per cent of the votes. Coming in a close second was the dreaded cleaning of gutters and downpipes, which 36 per cent of those questioned voted for.

Unpacking then constructing flat-packed furniture was also an unpopular task, receiving over 10 per cent of the votes.

Putting up shelves turned out to be a popular DIY staple, with only seven per cent of people surveyed disliking the job.

William Davies, spokesman for Aspect Maintenance, claimed he was "amazed" at the low responses which erecting furniture and putting up shelves received, stating they were often responsible for DIY disasters.

He said: "We all hate it when the time comes to give your property a quick refresh, so it's no surprise that re-decoration is proving to be the most dreaded of DIY tasks."

The figures come in the wake of news that the National Home Improvement Council is expecting a flurry of DIY activity when the summer ends.
