More gardeners 'choosing Mediterranean plants'
The use of Mediterranean plants in gardens has increased, according to one industry expert.
Charlotte Rowe, garden designer and member of the Society of Garden Designers, noted that more people are turning to the type of shrubbery due to drier weather, whereas these plants may have previously been seen more often on holidays.
She added: "They are better at coping with some of these drier hot summers and you can't keep watering the garden, so that is quite important."
And the expert insisted that it is important people take advice on the right plants for the right place in their outdoor space.
So, getting professional advice could be worthwhile as Ms Rowe noted that it could save people money in the long-term.
These recommendations come after a BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor from June 2010 revealed that during the sunnier weather the UK retail sales for the DIY and leisure industry benefited.
