Many homeowners 'want the look of wood floors'

The aesthetic quality of wood flooring is something sought by many homeowners, it has been suggested.

Writing for the Pocono Record, columnist Sonya Bilianis spoke to kitchen designer at Monroe Marble and Granite Cheryl Franz who noted that flooring is an important aspect of home improvement.

"Many want the look of hardwood floors, but you will still have spillage, drops and scratches. There is more wear and tear in the kitchen than any other room," she said.

Another kitchen designer claimed that people renovating on a budget will be forced to make compromises but Ms Franz said that the majority of homeowners choose quality materials to ensure durability.

She also recommended carrying out research into different kitchen styles on the internet.

The importance of DIY in the kitchen was recently highlighted by manager of the National Self Build and Renovation Centre Tim Doherty. He said homeowners can save a lot of money by carrying out kitchen projects themselves.
