Major home improvement project doubles house value
Householders could double the value of their home by carrying out major home improvements to increase the amount of space on offer.
Project manager and developer Sophie Jackson purchased Yorkshire house Chapelfields for around £500,000 back in 2006 to live in with her husband Aiden and their two children Max and Amelia.
However, after completing major work to transform the two-bedroom property into a six-bedroom abode, she is now selling up to take on a new project - with a new asking price of £1.25 million for the property.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Mrs Jackson explained how she managed to create so much more space in the home.
"We raised the roofline of the kitchen and put two new bedrooms in above," she said. "We knocked out the dark corridor, study and other rooms downstairs to make an enormous sitting room and large welcoming entrance hall."
Homeowners considering major home improvements may be inspired by Madonna, who is spending £1 million on her Manhattan townhouse - with work including adding a new floor to the property.
