Insulation 'shaves money' off bills

Placing insulation in the roof and under wood flooring can help homeowners to significantly reduce their energy costs, according to one expert.

Editor of Build It magazine Anna-Marie DeSouza highlighted the importance of insulation and welcomed proposals for renewable heat incentives.

"I can't stress enough the importance of a properly insulated home. You'll shave money off your heating bills and provide yourself with a more comfortable living environment," she said.

However, recent figures compiled by Thinkinsulation.com indicate that 80 per cent of UK homeowners have failed to improve the insulation in their houses in the last three years.

Ms DeSouza went on to note that leading a sustainable lifestyle is becoming increasingly important and claimed it is now easier than ever to install technologies such as solar panels and ground source power systems.

She also said that a few simple lifestyle changes can often lead to massive energy savings and gave the example of not boiling a full kettle when preparing a cup of tea.
