Insulating wood floors could save homeowners money, claims eco enthusiast
Some of the best steps homeowners can take to minimise their energy costs are often the "simplest", according to one DIY enthusiast.
Speaking in a Telegraph article, Chris Handel explained how he achieved massive savings on energy in his period home.
"When people think 'eco home' they expect some modern timber pod, or a hobbit house. Our house is nearly 100 years old and looks no different from many others," he told the publication.
He went on to recommend simple measures for people looking to save money in their period houses, such as using a wood burning stove and insulating wood floors, lofts and walls.
By utilising measures such as these, Mr Handle was able to cut the C02 emissions of his home by over 60 per cent.
In a Telegraph column from last month, DIY guru Jeff Howell informed readers that wood flooring was often better for period homes suffering from damp problems.
