'Insulate wood flooring', homeowners advised
Homeowners have been advised of the potential heat which can be lost by failing to properly insulate a house.
Writing in the Independent, columnist Kate Hilpern claimed that forthcoming energy price hikes mean that consumers are now more aware of the money-saving benefits which insulation can bring.
She warned homeowners of the various areas in which heat can escape from a property and provided advice on plugging such gaps.
"In a typical home, 15 per cent of the heat is lost through the floor alone, so check floorboards and skirting boards for gaps," Ms Hilpern said.
She provided some easy tips for preventing heat loss, advocating the use of draught excluders and pointed to a range of fixed and subtle draught-blocking products for doorways.
A recent post on the A Thrifty Mrs blog noted that homeowners can create their own draft excluders by making use of a newspaper, blanket, string and ribbons.
