Incentives for green home improvement

In the first annual energy statement, secretary of state for energy and climate change Chris Huhne revealed a number of incentives to help homeowners make green home improvements.

Under the coalition's Green Deal scheme, homeowners can receive help with green home improvements such as installing new, energy-efficient boilers and insulation.

In his statement, Mr Huhne also claimed the country needed local incentives for green community action and laid out plans to allow local authorities to sell renewable electricity to the grid.

The proposed deal would give homeowners funds to aid them in energy-efficiency for which the homeowner would pay back from savings made on their energy bills. This would cover improvements such as loft insulation, double glazing and renewable energy sources.

The Green Deal for households is due to be established through laws in the upcoming energy security and green economy bill, which aims to encourage home energy efficiency improvements across the country.
