Improve your home for as little as £50, claims expert

Home improvement can be performed on budgets as low as £50, property expert Kate Watson-Smyth has claimed.

In an article for the Independent, the DIY guru said that even small renovations such as painting can transform a home.

Wallpapering or applying paint to feature walls, replacing carpets with rugs and altering light fixtures are all cheap renovation options that provide great results, according to the expert.

Those on larger budgets can start adding significant value to their homes by using features such as laminate flooring or glass roofs, she added.

Interior designer Hugo Tugman told Ms Watson-Smyth that even small changes can bring huge benefits.

He said: "I recently worked on a house valued at £1.35 million. We converted a dressing room back into a bedroom with an en suite and the house was revalued at £1.7 million."

These sentiments echo those of interior designer Thomas Jayne, who claimed last month in Interior Design magazine that giving rooms a thorough clean could often make them look "fresh".
