Householders 'have to insulate loft space'

Householders have been advised that ensuring their loft spaces are properly insulated can help to save them money on their energy bills.

According to eco campaigner and television presenter James Strawbridge, while homeowners are concerned about protecting the environment, they are mostly interested in how they can save money.

He said: "Loft installation is a very sensible move to make, partly because [when] you think of being cold outside, you put on a hat."

Mr Strawbridge added that other home improvements that could help a property to become more energy-efficient include adding a hippo - a simple water-saving device - to a toilet in order to save money with each flush.

He advised homeowners to buy an energy monitor for around £5 so they can see how much energy they are using and how they could save money.

Mr Strawbridge was speaking after the Energy Saving Trust stated that a good way to improve the energy efficiency of a property could be to install a condensing boiler.
