Homeowners warned away from DIY refinishing on wood floors

Homeowners with wood flooring have been warned not to attempt refinishing the product without the aid of professional assistance.

According to UK specialist the Floor Sanding Experts, while DIY is "all the rage" it "may not be such a great idea" for enthusiasts to attempt more complex types of maintenance on their own.

The company warned that refinishing can be a challenging task and highlighted this issue by consulting Jonathan Hardy, who had a misadventure when he tried tackling the project alone.

"You think it will be easy enough if you follow instructions," He said. "But it really is very difficult to avoid doing anything which might destroy the floors."

The Floor Sanding Experts went on to explain that common problems faced when refinishing wood floors include bumps and inappropriate sanding of sections.

A recent Lonad article noted wood floors are relatively easy to maintain but warned that homes with families and pets can often require greater care.
