Homeowners told to prepare gardens for holidays
Property owners have been handed advice on how to prepare their gardens before they go away on holiday.
According to Helen Yemm of the Telegraph, homeowners should move pots and other containers into the shade and out of the sun before they go away.
She explained that if householders cannot find someone to visit their house to water their plants, they should try to bring in greenery that copes better on its own.
"Thick-leafed succulents and phalaenopsis orchids rather than fussy streptocarpus or maidenhair ferns indoors; pelargoniums and spiky things rather than pansies and petunias outdoors, for example," she added.
Ms Yemm said moisture-retaining granules should be added to compost before going away to ensure the plants still have access to the necessary nutrients and water.
In a previous article for the Telegraph, the writer advised a reader to trim their rose bush by pruning it by around half in the winter.
