Homeowners 'more willing to tackle DIY projects'

In an uncertain financial climate, more homeowners are turning to DIY in an effort to create their dream homes, a spokesman from Halifax has revealed.

A recent survey by the company found that many renovators would go to some length to achieve perfection, with three-quarters of people aged 18 to 40 willing to knock down walls in the course of home improvements.

Similarly, over half of those polled would look to add space to their homes, either by converting an attic or basement space or through adding an extension on a new property.

Spokesman for Halifax Stephen Noakes claimed that homeowners were now less willing to compromise when it came to home improvements.

"There's often a difference between the dream home and the reality of more traditional properties on the market but now, more than ever, people are willing to take on their own project," he remarked.

Halifax's findings come after a recent survey by the National Home Improvement Show found that more women were taking up DIY and trying their hand at renovation.
