Homeowners encouraged to grow food
Homeowners have been urged to help their children pass the time over the school holidays by encouraging them to get out in the garden and plant seeds.
According to the Coventry Telegraph, planting is an ideal way to spend the warm summer days for all ages and members of the family, "whether you have a gargantuan garden or just a windowsill".
The publication goes on to state that a large green area is not necessary to enjoy the experience of planting seeds that could grow into edible treats such as herbs and salads due to the idea of square foot gardening.
A square-foot garden offers people the opportunity of growing plants and food within a tight space for those without large outdoor areas at their homes.
Gardenorganic.org notes that the small space should then be divided into 16 equally-sized squares by the homeowner before they decide what it is they are going to attempt to grow.
