Homeowners 'are taking on smaller projects'

Property owners in the US who are carrying out home improvements are taking on smaller projects, according to a housing expert.

Abbe Will, a research assistant at the Joint Center for Housing Studies, told the Sun News that homeowners who want to improve their houses are doing so with less expensive work than previously.

Ray Floyd, the president of a building company in Myrtle Beach, added that home improvements are becoming a more attractive option for many householders as they cannot afford to move to another property.

He said more builders are carrying out remodelling projects rather than full building works, which is a mark of the kind of upgrades many homeowners are looking towards.

Householders who are thinking about taking on DIY jobs were recently advised by Colleen Pyra, development and volunteer coordinator for Habitat for Humanity Desert Foothills, to purchase a good pair of gloves and safety goggles.
