Home makeover 'could add ten per cent to value'

DIY fans have been told to look at the exterior of their property if they want to find an area they can improve to boost the value of a house.

According to Lindsay Cuthill, a director of Savills estate agents, carrying out improvements to the outside of a home can increase the sale price of a house by as much as ten per cent.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, she stated that a DIY job as inexpensive as painting the bricks could help to make the property look more attractive to potential buyers.

"Look at all those lovely Victorian terraces painted all different colours," she said. "But if you are the only person who paints their house in a street it may stand out even more."

Sophie Jackson recently told the Daily Telegraph that major home improvements on her family's Yorkshire home helped to more than double its value - with it now up for sale.
