Home improvers told to concentrate on kitchens

Householders who are looking into home improvements to carry out in their property have been advised by a leading television property expert to work on their kitchens.

According to Phil Spencer - the co-presenter of Channel 4's Location Location Location - kitchens have become the showpiece area of a home in recent weeks.

"The number one priority is creating a handsome and efficient work surface and ensuring easy access between the three points of the kitchen triangle, that is, the sink, fridge and cooker," he told the Telegraph.

He added that homeowners need to be careful to make sure they spend the right amount of money on their new kitchen.

Mr Spencer said typically, upgrading the kitchen in a property can boost the value of a home by around five per cent.

Last month, Vanessa Brady, chair of the Society of British Interior Design, told the Daily Mail that women decide whether or not they want to buy a house when they see the kitchen.
