Home improvements 'insulate properties from rising energy bills'

Green home improvements can help to protect a homeowner from rising energy bills.

This is according to a couple who carried out extensive work in their property after winning a competition run by the Great British Refurb Campaign, reports the Guardian.

Will Homoky and Catherine Beswick were awarded more than £20,000 worth of home improvements and spent the money on energy monitors, insulation and solar panels for their three-bedroom house in Bristol.

"Our old radiators failed to heat the house adequately but now we've had all this insulation installed, we can downsize the radiators and heat our house more effectively," said Mr Homoky.

He added that this winter will not be as expensive for the pair as they will save money on heating their home, which is 130 years old.

Birmingham City Council recently announced that householders in around 40 properties in the Aston, Lozells, Newtown and Northfield areas of the city are to benefit from green home improvements over the coming months.
