Home improvements 'can help sell property'

Householders have been told that carrying out home improvements can help them to sell their property.

Amelia Jach stated that remodelling her old home had allowed her to sell up and move on to a new house.

Speaking to CBS4, she said: "All the houses have really been updated and so if they were going to buy a house, they weren't going to buy one with 30-year-old carpet in the kitchen."

Ms Jach said the home improvements she carried out before selling the property included repainting the walls of the house and replacing the old flooring.

She added that this enabled her to sell to the first visitors to the house.

This comes in the same week that journalist Susan Emmett, writing for the Times, stated that even small home improvements can help to make the difference in a property.

She recommended repainting walls as an affordable DIY project for householders to take on.
