Home improvements 'can be affordable'
Homeowners can revamp their properties without incurring enormous bills, according to designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
The TV personality told Wales Online that "a bit of imagination" could hide flaws in a home without the owner having to spend too much.
He added that it is "truly not difficult to use tricks and techniques" to this end, having noted that the recession has prompted many people to make the most of a home rather than move.
To make a room seem bigger, he suggested painting walls in cool colours and introducing long vertical lines such as full-length curtains and tall lamps.
Stencils, murals or pretty headboards can help hide any unattractive corners in a bedroom.
Halifax recently revealed that 56 per cent of homeowners have been carrying out some improvements to their properties over the past year.
Painting and wallpapering are the most common ways of revamping a house, it stated.
Figures also showed that the total expenditure on home improvements now averages at £6,362.
