Home improvements 'are more important than holidays'
Householders should ensure all necessary home improvement projects are completed before they spend money on a holiday.
This is according to the National Home Improvement Council, which stated that homeowners who do this have their priorities wrong.
Andrew Leech, director at the organisation, described this as a "negative approach", adding that spending has declined on home improvements, because more and more people are thinking about going away on holiday instead.
However, he urged these people to reconsider and instead spend some time, money and effort on DIY jobs around the home.
He added that those who are currently spending cash on home improvements are concentrating more on their gardens rather than upgrading or repairing the interior.
This comes shortly after Daily Mail financial journalist Neil Simpson advised property owners to spend some time on home improvements before remortgaging their house.
He said this could potentially allow them to access a more attractive mortgage rate if they improve the value of their home.
