HBF welcomes house-building proposals
The Home Builders Federation (HBF) has welcomed the announcement that local councils will receive bonuses for approving new properties.
Plans were revealed earlier in the week by minister for housing Grant Shapps, who claimed the bonus scheme would reduce the country's growing housing shortage.
However, the HBF also said that more details are required about the plan, which is set to be introduced in the Spending Review later this year.
HBF spokesman Steve Turner said of the measures: "It is imperative that the government provides local authorities with full and complete proposals as soon as possible - in terms of how it is going to work."
He went on to state that knowing exactly what the incentives would entail and when they would be put into motion would enable local authorities to deliver the much-needed housing increase.
The reaction comes in the wake of announcements by Halixfax. Revealed earlier this week, its figures indicate a narrowing of the price gap between northern and southern properties in the UK
