Garden sheds are the latest style accessory, claims expert
The hut at the bottom of the garden has evolved beyond being a simple retreat for men, according to DIY guru Adam Edwards.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Edwards claimed that sheds, once the bastion of male independence, have hit the mainstream in a big way.
An exponential increase in shed sales across the board has prompted retailers to react with a new range of high-specification outhouses.
There has also been an increase in the number of people moving their home offices into their sheds, creating an ideal secluded workplace.
Author Alex Johnson has also cashed in on the shed migration, releasing his book Shedworking - the Alternative Workplace Revolution. This guide to getting the most out of your shed contains useful hints such as offsetting it against tax and tips on how to spice up domestic workplaces.
This latest look at the shed revolution comes in the wake of last month's Guardian interview with artist Jaspar Joseph-Lister. He claimed that anyone could transform the "dead space" in their garden into a stylish, contemporary workspace.
