Garden security 'a popular DIY project'

More and more householders are seeking ways to carry out DIY projects to improve the security of their gardens, according to new research.

A report from Gocompare.com stated that three-quarters of homeowners are planning to improve their gardens, with the average figure to be spent standing at £420.

Around a quarter of respondents to the survey indicated they have concerns over the security of their gardens.

The poll found that 17 per cent are planning to install a new gate or fence to improve their garden security.

About one in eight Britons said they are planning to completely redesign their garden this summer.

Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor at Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, said garden security is becoming more of an issue for householders.

She said: "You can get smart lighting systems that can simulate occupancy of the house.

"That can be a factor for the garden as well. Security lights would be your number one for the garden." ADNFCR-2810-ID-19783739-ADNFCR
