Friends of the Earth calls for green home improvements
Giving funding to home improvements to increase the energy efficiency of homes should be a priority of the new government, according to Friends of the Earth.
The organisation stated that a commitment to building a greener future featured in the manifestos of both the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative Party.
Friends of the Earth's executive director Andy Atkins said the new coalition government is a "golden opportunity" to deliver a low-carbon future.
He said: "The Queen's Speech and Budget must contain significant measures to tackle climate change and demonstrate that the new government has the determination to lead the country towards a greener future."
Both the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats stated in their pre-election manifestos that they would offer householders money to carry out green home improvements in their properties.
Liberal Democrat Chris Huhne is likely to take responsibility for whether or not these proposals come to fruition, as he is the new energy and climate change secretary, with Caroline Spelman from the Conservatives named as environment secretary.
