French couple enamoured with wood flooring
Wood floors have attracted a Parisian couple, who recently bought a property in the city's lower Left Bank.
Charles and Julie Carmignac expressed their immediate love for the house, when they first viewed it in the summer of 2009.
"We were totally captivated," said Mr Carmignac. "It had a crazy charm and a beauty that left us breathless."
However, the story did not reach its happy ending immediately, with the couple forced to continue their search after the owner, costume designer Dominique Borg, was unwilling to negotiate the price.
Following a lengthy search of "inevitably dull" properties, the Carmignacs were surprised to find their dream home was still available and immediately put in another offer, which was accepted.
They decided not to alter the wood flooring which the home came with, claiming it is part of the property's "threadbare style".
In a recent article for the Lexington Herald-Leader, Marshall Brain claimed that wood floors have been a consistent staple of construction for centuries.
