Fallen trees turned into wood flooring

Fallen trees in a US city have been saved from a landfill and turned into wood flooring.

In a recent article for the Winnipeg Sun, columnist Paul Turenne reported on the story of the area's waste management services, which encourages businesses to recycle items of rubbish into usable products.

Manager of solid waste services for Winnipeg Darryl Drohomerski said that his organisation seeks to promote better uses for discarded materials, rather than simply burying them.

"One of the things we want to do is transform people's ideas of a 'dump' to seeing it as an environmental management centre," he said.

Local firm Wood Anchor has taken advantage of the scheme by using timber headed for the landfill to create items such as wood flooring, in addition to a range of other products.

This comes after a recent article on the Review website reported on Ohio Schlabach Woodworks, which created wood flooring and from planks taken from dismantled barns.
