Expert recommends creating garden bog
Property owners who wish to improve their gardens have been advised by one expert to consider creating a bog in their garden.
According to Toby Buckland, a small bog can be created in a garden over a weekend and has many positive benefits for plants.
He stated that a bog - a permanently wet, rich soil - can be perfect for growing plants that like to be embedded in mud.
Writing for the Guardian, he said: "It doesn't need to be next to a pond or by a stream and if you have a leaky or unwanted pond, you can convert it into a child-safe bog garden."
Mr Buckland said homeowners who want to keep their pond as well as creating a bog should build it downhill, so the bog collects any overflowing water from the pond.
This comes after Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor at Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, suggested that householders install security lights in their garden to ward off intruders.
