'Do the flooring yourself' advises expert

A new guide to frugal DIY has informed home improvement enthusiasts that they should take care of simple jobs, such as remodelling wood floors and fixtures, then contract a professional to finish the task.

In a recent Fox Business article, host of DIY Network show Money Hunters Matt Blashaw revealed how proper home improvement techniques could help to save renovators money.

"If you're doing a bathroom remodelling job, you can yank out dated mirrors, flooring and fixtures yourself, but call in professionals to do the plumbing and remodelling," he said.

His advice comes after a Sainsbury's Finance poll revealed that British DIY enthusiasts are set to spend millions of pounds on home improvements.

Some other top tips offered by Mr Blashaw included keeping tools and work areas organised, purchasing labour and materials separately and performing preventative maintenance.

He also recommended the use of recycled or incorrectly mixed paint which many hardware stores sell at highly discounted prices.
