DIYers urged to try painting and decorating
Householders who are looking to add value to their property have been advised to redecorate.
According to Herts and Essex Lofts, this is one of the top three home improvement projects a property owner can carry out to boost the value of a house.
March Loppas, who runs the firm, told About My Area that this is because presentation is vital when a homeowner comes to sell on their property.
"A poorly decorated living space can have an instant, negative effect and give the impression that a lot of work - and a lot of money - will be needed to rectify it," he pointed out.
Mr Loppas added that refitting a kitchen and adding central heating insulation could be other worthy home improvements for those who want to get a higher price when they sell up.
Last month, Aaron Crowe of Wallet Pop stated that painting is an affordable home improvement project, with a tin of paint and the necessary equipment costing around $50 (£33).
