DIYers told to use white tiles for industrial kitchen look

White metro tiles are a must-buy for anyone who is seeking to create the look of an industrial kitchen in their home, an expert has stated.

According to Susie Steiner of the Guardian, these are "cheap as chips" and essential for any industrial kitchen.

"What you're aiming for is a 1930s-public-urinal vibe and to get this you need to be liberal with the tiling," she said.

However, she advised householders to be cautious about the use of open shelves in a kitchen, because these are likely to accumulate clutter.

Ms Steiner said if DIYers have their hearts set on open shelves in their new industrial-style kitchen, they should only use them for display items and "ban the rest of the family from touching them".

In a previous article for the Guardian, she said the DIY approach to remodelling a home can work, as long as the householder is organised, is sure of their design and is able to cope with ups and downs.
