DIY 'to become more popular in autumn'
DIY projects are to become more popular for homeowners in the autumn, according to the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC).
Andrew Leech, director at NHIC, explained that many people are waiting for the summer to come to an end - and for the government to settle down - before committing to home improvements.
He pointed out that many people may still need to carry out repairs to their home to fix damage caused by last winter's cold snap.
"People will be taking a more positive attitude towards their properties and thinking about new kitchens and new bathrooms and hopefully also energy improvements too such as cavity wall insulation," he said.
Mr Leech added that the DIY market cannot expect a sudden boom though, as it is more likely that growth is slow.
B&Q owner Kingfisher recently announced that DIY sales have dropped lately, with total sales down by 3.6 per cent in the last ten weeks.
