DIY skills help to rejuvenate Yorkshire Museum

Homeowners may be inspired to carry out DIY on their properties after it was revealed that the newly-reopened Yorkshire Museum had employees' handy skills to thank for its remodelling.

After public spending cuts meant that the budget for the redevelopment of the facility was cut, it was decided that staff would be kept on while work was carried out on the building.

However, the employees pitched in with necessary activities such as painting, knocking down walls and rehanging ceilings in order to keep the project on track, reports the Yorkshire Post.

Andrew Morrison, the museum's head curator, explained that while staff were not necessarily skilled at DIY before the work got underway, they are now.

"After finding some timber in a shed our community archaeologist spent evenings at home in front of the television carving replica wooden corbels for the entrance hall and everyone has had an input," he said.

Earlier this month, developer Sophie Jackson told the Telegraph that carrying out major home improvements on her family residence helped to double its value.
