DIY log cabin 'not designed to be lived in'

Homeowners thinking of buying a luxury log cabin have been told that the flat-pack DIY structure is not designed to be used as a home.

Tesco is selling a range of the temporary structures on its website, but a spokesperson has pointed out that the buildings are not houses in their own right.

The spokesperson said: "The log cabin is not being marketed as a DIY flat-packed home as they are not designed to be lived in."

Instead, home improvers will be able to purchase the log cabin and use it in the garden as a play room, a home office, an entertainment centre or a gym.

However, they are advised to check with their local council that they do not require planning permission before erecting the structure, otherwise they may later be forced to take it down.

The most expensive of the buildings being sold by the supermarket chain is the Finnlife Helsinki log cabin, which is currently retailing at a touch under £10,000.
