DIY fans 'can fix leaky roofs'
Leaky roofs can be fixed by those who fancy themselves as a DIY expert.
According to certified master inspector with the American Society of Home Inspectors Dwight Barnett, it is much simpler to repair a small hole than a large patch of leaky ceiling, reports Scripps Howard News Service.
He explained that roofs are bound to leak eventually, but that homeowners can alleviate the problem by making a small hole in the ceiling to allow water to drain through rather than cause a stain on the roof.
"Finding the exact spot where a roof leaks is difficult for even a skilled worker, because the location where water enters the roof and the location of the stain do not always line up," he said.
However, Mr Barnett said climbing on a roof to investigate the problem should be left to the professionals.
Last month, founder of the DIY advice site BookshelfBoyfriend.com Alysia Maciejowska told the Independent that the internet is useful for finding out how to carry out DIY projects.
