DIY can help sales in falling market, claims expert

With falling house prices afflicting the property market, one expert has claimed that investing in a bit of DIY could make all the difference.

George Clarke of popular Channel 4 property show Restoration Man believes the right DIY projects could mean the difference between a property staying on the market or being sold.

Writing in the Mirror, he pointed to research which indicates the majority of people will make up their minds about a property in less than a minute.

Clarke shared a few of his top value-adding tips, such as going energy efficient with products like double glazing and underfloor heating.

He told the publication: "Three-quarters of buyers say a house's green credentials are something they now look at when choosing a property. Insulation will help you save on running costs too."

Clarke's comments come in the wake of the National Home Improvement Show's warning that there was a "gap" between DIY enthusiasts' understanding and implementation of green home improvements.
